Mole fraction of solute
Mole fraction equation ( also termed as molar fraction) of a component i in a solution is denoted by symbol Xi . It is defined as no. of moles of that component total number of moles in the solution expressed as a fraction. It follows that the mole fraction of solute is a shapeless number. Further the sum of mole fractions of all is unity (1.0).
This measure of mixing is used in physical chemistry in the study of Phase Diagrams. The advantages are:
This is based on weights alone. There is no need to know the densities or volumes. You can make a solution of any required mole fraction of solute by weighing calculated quantities
It is not dependent on temperature need help with 12th grade math
It is symmetrical. The solute and solvent depends on the mole fraction alone. Take n a two component solution of A and B If XA = 0.2 , A is solute.. if XA is 0.8, then XB is 0.2 and B is solute and A is solvent.
Molality is used in colligative properties like boiling point elevation and freezing point depression.Do you know Significance of Math .Since molality & mole fraction both use weights (masses) for both solute and solvent they can be interconverted .
